I am the Director of Third Sector First and I have been designing and conducting independent research studies and consultancies for over a decade. For six years previously I worked as Managing Consultant for a national charity.

Through Third Sector First I developed policy and operations for major research grants programmes at the Community Fund (formerly the NLCB and now the Big Lottery Fund). My early career included Research Fellowships at the University of Cambridge and in the Department of Social Policy at the University of Birmingham.

My first degree was in English and Politics. I have an MA (Econ) from the University of Manchester and I was a Visiting Research Fellow in the Centre for Research in Primary Care, University of Leeds.

Sarah Winstanley

I undertook my first degree in psychology before becoming a researcher; what started as a gap-year job in Australia turned into a career on my return to Wales, where I spent over four years conducting qualitative and quantitative projects for both private and public sector organisations, including evaluations of patient experiences and researching public support for the war in Iraq.

With my developing interest in health and social issues, I subsequently undertook my MSc in Health Psychology at the University of the West of England.

I am currently a Research Assistant in the School of Medicine, Swansea University, and the Caerphilly Researcher on the Family Links Nurturing Programme randomised controlled trial.  I also conduct freelance work in mental health settings.
